Description		    Report from and statutes of the Yeshivah and Free Orphan’s Kitchen Haye Olam. The text, primarily in Hebrew but with a lengthy English preface, is accompanied by photographs of the orphans and charts and diagrams of the orphanage. The report is issued fifty years after the founding (5646 = 1896) of the orphanage, which has the objective of providing food and clothing for the orphans, spreading Torah, raising Jewish children from all the communities in Jerusalem, and, in addition to fostering their spiritual growth also instructing them in such subjects as writing and arithmetic. Students who have graduated from the Talmud Torah are further educated and prepared for careers as rabbis, shochtim, preachers, and teachers. The introduction notes the struggles in the early years, when they had little faced hunger and war, persisting, with the result that they were able to build a “magnificent huge institution of Torah, a true Jewish home of learning, that is constantly growing . . .giving a thourough Jewish education to the young, in saving unfortunate orphans . . .,” concluding with a description of six periods of growth. The detailed Hebrew section includes lists financial records, names of supporters and documents pertaining to the rabbinic supporters and staff.
