Detailed
Description
Two hundred forty three aphorisims in Yiddish with explanatory remnarks by Y. L. Kohen. The aphorisms, frequently humorous are about the Jew, himself, and others. Examples are, 4)A learned Jew cannot be a Hasid and an ignoramus cannot be an apikorus; 11) A Jewish child doesn’t die from the berit milah and a Jewish wife doesn’t die from the tevillah; 22) Better a Yid without a beard than a beard without a Jew; 23) Better a Jew without a hat than a hat without a Jew; 26) The Jew is always better than a meshumad (apostate) because the Jew can always become a meshumad but the meshumad can not become one; 43) there is not a Jewish cloister; 53) He speaks Yiddish like a goi; 80) As much as you scrape him you cannot remove the pintele Yid from him; and 95) and A Yid and a mishugenah are afraid of water.
