Detailed
Description
Ethical work emphasizing ethics and development of refined personal traits In Yididsh by R. Solomon Zalman ben Simeon Wetzlar. The title page, in Hebrew, informs that R. Wetzlar was from Fuerth, although the EJ describes him as one of the prominent citizens of the German community of Weztlar. The title page also states that this book, small in size but of great value, is a guide for men, women, and children. It is beign reprinted due to its unavailability, there not being even one to a city or two to a family, all of which attests to the popularity of this work. The title page is dated with the verse “[The Lord,] knows the thoughts of man, [that they are vanity]” (Psalms94:11). Next is a table of contents (1b-2b), listing the sixty-one chapters comprising Hakirot ha-Lev. At the bottom of 2b is decorative mark with a small impression of the head of a woman at the top. The text follows, in Yiddish, set in a single column in Veiber taitsch. Hakirot ha-Lev was, at one time a popular and much read ethical work. This is the final printing of Hakirot ha-Lev.
