Detailed
Description
Discourses in Dutch on the Five Books of Moses by M. L. Van Ameringen. The book opens to a copper plate Moses with his hands being wupported by Aaron and Hur (Exodeus 17:12). The title page has a Hebrew heading Sefer Lekah Tov on Humishe Humshe Torah and states in Dutch that it is Brief considerations on the five books of Mozes (Korte Beschouwingen over vijf Boeken van Mozes). It notes that these discourses are based on the weekly Torah readings delivered in the synagogue (Zooals die ter synagoge in den tijd van een jaar worden voorgelezen). There is a forward follwed by verse from the author, and then the text. Each of the Five Books of Moses has its own title page follwoed by the discourses. There is a heading and a leading verse, most often from a biblical source but also from other works such as Avot. The text is in Dutch with occasional Hebrew.

M. L. Van Ameringen wrote on and translated other books of the Bible and, together with the Dutch scolar Gabriel Isaac Polak translated the book of Job (1850) and Jossippon (with commentary) into Dutch (1866).
