Detailed
Description
Mahzor according to the rite of the Sephardim for the festivals. This volume is part three of a four volume set. The title page describes it as edited with seven hakirot and seven derishot, a reference to the thorough investigation and inquiries made of witnesses (cf. Deuteronomy 13:15), all done according to the true rite, to correct the many errors made in previous editions. This is true also for the letters, words, and order of prayers. The editor responsible for this was R. Samuel Rodriguez Mendes. The date is given with the verse, “Samuel grew on, and was in favor” (I Samuel 2:26) at the behest of R. Abraham Ezekiel ibn Yakar Brandon. The verso of the title page has the text for eruv Tavshilin followed by the prayers for the night of Sukkot. Included are prayers for Sukkot, Simhat Torah, Pesah, and Shavu’ot, Azharot, and related Torah readings.
