Detailed
Description
Commentary on Maimonides’ (Rambam, 1135-1204) Mishneh Torah by R. Meir ben Aaron. The title page describes the author as R. Meir of Gluga ben Aaron, author of Minhat Aharon, of the root of Zevi, a descendant of the gaon, Siftei Kohen (Shabbetai ben Meir ha-Kohen, 1621–1662). The title is from, “And for the precious fruits brought forth by the sun (tevu’ot shemesh)” (Deuteronomy 33:14) Tevu’ot Shemesh is dated from the verse, “[He who goes forth weeping, bearing the seed for sowing], shall come back with shouts of joy, bringing his sheaves with him” (Psalms 126:6). There is a lengthy introduction from R. Meir, a page of verse in praise of the author and his work and then the text. Tevu’ot Shemesh is set in two columns in rabbinic type excepting headers and initial words. The text encompasses halakhot in the Mishneh Torah dealing with festivals, marriage, women, and prohibited foods.
