R. Moses ben Isaac, son-in-law of R. Isaiah ben R. David ben Samuel ha-Levi (Taz) writes, in a brief introduction, that Beit David u-Shelomo is a work of heavenly instruction. The manuscript was found in the home of the Taz and it was not initially known who was wrote the book, for the author’s name was not found on it. Only after preparing and begining to print it was the author’s name discovered. In order that “my lips will move in the grave” (Yevamot 97a, Sanhedrin 90b, Bekhorot 31b) has it been entitled Beit David u-Shelomo, in the merit of both the author and of the Taz. Below the introduction is an approbation from Prague rabbis, dated 7 Adar 449 (Sunday, February 27, 1689), signed by R. Benjamin Wolff ben Aaron Simneon Shapiro, R. Samuel ben Abraham Helman, R. Uri Sharaga Feibush, R. Solomon Zalman ben Mashil, and R. Joseph ben Zevi.

The text follows comprised of Pirkei Avot in square letters in the inner column and Solomon’s detailed and comprehensive commentary in the outer column and below Avot. The only ornamentation ise the border of florets on the title page and about the first words of Avot and the commentary.
