A commentary on the books of the Bible based on Rash’s commentary on the Talmud compiled by R. Isaac ben Benjamin Zev Mahrshan, chief rabbi of the Hague. In his introduction R. Mahrshan writes that monograph is being published on the fourth hundred anniversary of the birth of Rashi. He notes that Rashi was both a commentator and decisor, so thorough that he did not leave a place for other rishonim (early sages) Rashi’s works have been st completely studied and commented on what is there to do.that has not already been done? R. Mahrshan decided to review Rashi’s commentary on the Talmud, selecting those scattered instances where he explains words or verses from the Bible and to range them as a commentary. Also reviewed are entries in Rashi’s responsa. R. Mahrshan continues to explains his methodology in detail in the introduction. The text is arranged in the order of the books of the Bible; entries consist of the biblical verse, Rashi’s comment, and its source in the Talmud. |
