Detailed
Description
Only edtion of this work on the hope of Israel by R. Simeon Eliezer ben Jekuthiel Friedenstein. The title page describes Tikvat Yisrael as being on the hope of the nation of Israel, followed by the verse, “in the latter days you shall consider it [perfectly]” (Jeremiah 23:20, 30:24). Tikvat Yisrael was brought to press by the book emporium of R. Samson and his son Isaac Sobeleski. There is an introduction, half title page and the text, which is set in a single column in square letters. The introduction begins that more than four thousand years ago a growth went out from a desirable tree, a fruit bearing tree, which to this day gives forth fruit and its leaves have not become worn out. There are those that have had its leaves and branches cut off, others entirely cut, nothing remaining but the root in the earth. Even so, it does not cease to give forth its strength, and to bud and flower to this day. All know about the people of Israel, a wondrous treasure, the plant of the Lord. Not on its own land, yet it arises after falling, to its full height, suddenly and on its own feet.
