Description |

Ethical work written in Jerusalem (Ir David) written for the sake of heaven לש"ש by R. David ben Aaron ha-Cohen of Vilna. Its purpose is to remove from the hearts of men the enticements of their urges. Specifically, when they see the certain good that will be realized at the end of time, for which we wait the entire year with the pining of our eyes. When the year concludes many are dejected and negatively affected. Therefore, R. Cohen brings details and examples to show that throughout the year there are verses that instruct on the good and the converse. If we merit, the Lord will bestow good upon us, if we will hearken to His voice. The verso of the title page has a New Years greeting wishing all to be written and sealed for the coming year, set within a border, and with a seal showing the Western Wall. The text is in two parts. In the first part Ir David includes an enumeration and details of the burial places of the righteous in Erez Israel by location. At the end of the book (36b) is a listing of the numbers of “our brothers the Ashkenazim” in locations in the holy cities of Erez Israel. |
