Description		    Only edition of the Sefer Yezirah with the commentary Peri Yizhak by R. Yizhak Eizak ben Yekutiel Zalman. The Sefer Yezirah is the earliest extant kabbalistic text on the creation of the world. Sefer Yezirah (Book of Creation), on cosmology and cosmogony, informs that G-d created the world with 32 secret paths of wisdom, defined as the ten Sefirot. The Sefirot are the subject of the first chapter, the remaining five chapters dealing with the twenty-two letters of the Hebrew alphabet, which interconnect into 231 gates and are the foundation of all creation. Sefer Yezirah is attributed to the patriarch Abraham, although some medieval sources ascribe it to R. Akiva.

The title page describes it as Peri Yizhal on the Sefer Yezirah of Avraham Avinu with the commentary of the kabbalist R. Yizhak Eizak, author of Be’er Yizhak on the Tikkunei. It is dated with the verse, “This people have I formed for myself; they shall proclaim my praise” (Isaiah 43:21). There is an approbation from R. Benjamin Broda of Grodno, followed by R. Yizhak Eizak’s introduction. The text begins with novellae from the author on גפ"ת (Gemara, Rashi, and Tosafot) and on the Rambam, included so that the page will not be left blank. Next is the order of the thirty-two names of the paths of wisdom with commentary, followed by the text of the Sefer Yezirah and Peri Yizhak, the former at the top of the page in square letters, the latter below in rabbinic type. At the end are errata to Be’er Yizhak.

דף [3,ב-8]: חידושים מגפ"ת ועל הרמב"ם. דף [11-9,א]: "סדר שמות לב נתיבות (חכמה) ופירושם, מתלמידי האר"י... דבר זה הועתקתי מספר פני מלך [לר' שלום בוזאגלו]". דף לה,ב-לו,[1]: "השמטות... מחיבורי ספר באר יצחק על ת"ז [תיקוני זוהר]". ראינו טופס בו הודבקה בשולי העמוד שמעבר לשער פיסת נייר, עליה נדפס "מכתב" (הסכמה) מאת ר'סעדיה.

הסכמה: ר' בנימן ברודא, הוראדנא, ו תשרי תקנ"ח. "מכתב קודש" (הסכמה) מאת ר' אליהו [ב"ר שלמה זלמן] מוילנא. כותב בשמו: תלמידו ר' סעדי' ב"ר נתן נטע, כא אב תקנ"ז (ההסכמה חסרה ברוב הטפסים).
