Description		    Bi-lingual Hebrew-Italian instructional work for children on the fundamental principles of Judaism by R. David Zacuto ben Mazzal Tov Modena. There are facing Hebrew and Italian title pages, the Hebrew stating that it is for the education of Jewish children in the way of service of the Lord. The Italian title page provides the same information in that language, as Catechismo per Istruire I Giovani Israeliti nei Principj del Loro Culto. The verso has the verse “Serve the Lord with awe” (Psalms 2:11) (Servite Domino in timore) followed by the text, also in facing Hebrew and Italian pages. It begins Third part, limud rishon) this beong part three to the complete work. This part has sixteen chapters, beginning with the essence of Avodah; on the inner Avodah when performing mizvot; on awe (fear); and respect for synagogues. Other topics include blessings, festivals, fasts, and viduii. At the end is a table of contents and a list of errata and omissions.

Italian scholar of the nineteenth century; popular preacher and teacher at Modena. He wrote a number of didactic, religious, and casuistic works in Hebrew and Italian, in addition to this work. They include: (1) "Zeker David," on customs of circumcision, two parts (Leghorn, n.d.); (2) responsa to the four Turim; (3) commentary to the prayer-book and the Mahzor according to the Italian ritual; (4) "Shelal David," notes to the Pentateuch; and 300 sermons. Only the first three of these works have been printed.
