Description		    Profusely illustrated introductory Hebrew language book for children entirely in Hebrew, excepting the title page and its verso, published by the Bureau of Education of the Jewish Community of New York City. The title page describes it as A Course in Hebrew for Extension Schools and is dated 1913. The verso of that page copywriting the book to the Bureau of Education has a copyright date of 1914. The text begins with pictures of objects with the Hebrew for them below. On the first page are a basket ñì, mountain äø, roof ââ, and a basket on the roof. òì ââ ñì. The following page continues with pictures of a wheel on the mountain, on the roof and adds the new term flag, showing an American flag. There are pictures of a dress, a boy, and a boy on the roof, a boy holding a flag, holding a garment, a basket, and a flower, thus increasing the vocabulary and beginning word combinations. As the vocabulary increases phrases are introduced, concluding with, under the heading verse, basic Jewish phrases such as “or from Zion shall go forth Torah, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem” (Isaiah 2:3, Micah 4:2), Shema Yisrael, and others. On the verso of that page are blessings over various types. An attractive item of early American Judaica.
