Detailed
Description
Prayer for rain in which G-d is acknowledged as the power causing rain and the change of seasons, petition for the fertility of the fields, and for preservation from famine. The document, in Judeo-German, calls for the recital of the regular morning, afternoon , and evening service and related prayers followed by several chapters of Psalms and concluding with the supplication in Hebrew. Prayers for rain are among the earliest liturgical texts and withholding of rain is regarded in the Bible as a punishment from G-d (cf. Deut. 11:11–17; I Kings 17:1). The call is signed by R. Aaron Aron, rabbi of the consistory in Nuder-Reine.
