Description		    Hebrew translation of the teachings of Buddha Gautama, founder of Buddhism. The text is in Hebrew but there is, reading from left to right, an English forward, written by George Selikovitsch. The title page describes the book as The Teachings of Buddha; The original text, comprising the gospel of Buddha Gautama, for the first time translated into Biblical Hebrew, with introduction and notes and a brief glossary in Rabbinical Hebrew. There are several lines of Sanskrit on the title page. The publisher’s forward states that the objective kept in view in publishing this work in Biblical Hebrew translation was its enormous popularity among Hebrew readers obtained when it appeared serially in Hadoar, and that they felt it a pious duty to comply with the wishes of the late DR. M. J. Berdiczewsky, who devoutly wished to see Buddha’s lefe and doctrine in Hebrew. He wished that the translator be George Selikovitsch, because he considered him to be a Hebrew poet who elevated modern Hebrew literature to a sublime magnitude. In the preface, Selikovitsch states that he wished to make the gospel of Buddha accessible to Hebrew readers. Although arranging it for Hebrew readers he has avoided deviating from Buddhist tenets. The text is in a single column in ten chapters. It is preceded by two pictures of Buddha.
