Detailed
Description
Important novellae and pilpulim on various aspects of hilkhot shehitah (laws of kosher slaughter). The title page, with a decorative frame, states that the work is comprised of excellent hiddushim and splendid pilpulim, on the laws of shehitah and bedikah ש"וב and hilkhot treifus, written by the great and outstanding Rav, R. Aaron ben Elhanan Av Bet Din of Riga. Publication was by the wife of the author. On the verso of the title page is the prayer from the author, which is said by travelers entering the city, that is, no error or fault should result from him. There are approbations from leading rabbis, among them R. Abraham Abele ben Abraham Solomon of Vilna, R. Jacob Zevi Kastenelbogen of Koenigsberg, R. Jacob ben Judah Benditin of Riga, and R. Moses Isaac ben Meshullam Zalman. There is a preface from R. Jacob Elijah Rivlin, son-in-law of the author, and an introduction from R. Aaron ben Elhanan. The text follows, set in two columns in rabbinic type, excepting headers and initial words. Minhat Aharon is a scholarly work on a complex subject by a Talmudic scholar. The inside front cover has a previous owner’s ex libra. This edition of Minhat Aharon is in pristine condition, some pages still slightly attached together. R. Aaron ben Elhanan (c. 1840) was among the first Orthodox rabbis of the community of Riga. He was succeeded in his position by his son-in-law R. Jacob Elias Rivlin.
