Description		    Homilies on Genesis by R. Alexander Susskind b. Abraham Joseph Levine (b. 1883). R. Levine was born in Raseiniai, Kovno Province. After his bar mitzvah he studied in Kelme, where he received his first ordination at the age of seventeen. With the support of R. Sheima Luria of Siauliai, he was accepted as the rabbi and preacher in a synagogue in his native town. He immigrated to America a year and a half later. "In New York he made a name for himself with his excellent sermons, which attracted large audiences." He served as the rabbi and preacher of Bet Hamidrash Anshei Nesvizh and Kol Yisrael Anshei Polin, both in New York. R. Levine was in Worcester, MA, by 1915.

Doresh Tov le-Ahmo, Part I contains sermons tailored for the sensibilities of R. Levine's contemporary generation (pp. 5-6). On Reform, see p. 111. On immigrant life in America, see pp. 149-66. He planned to publish his manuscript on the remaining sections of the Pentateuch if this volume would be well received (p. 6).
