Detailed
Description
Versified Birkhat Shalom by a beloved Talmud, R. Samuel Loewy of Derecsken, for his Rosh Yeshiva. Written in a clear almost calligraphic hand, it is for R. Stern upon his retirement. The initial paragraph states that after serving for fifty years as Rosh and Moreh in the Bet ha-Talmud ha-Gadol Borgashalov in Budapest, R. Stern is leaving his holy charge to live quietly and at rest from his labors. The text next follows in versified form, the initial letters of each of the thirteen lines forming an acrostic of R. Stern’s name and praising his many virtues and accomplishments. For example,
