R. Jacob ben Judah Leib Gordon (1877–1934), Canadian rabbi. Gordon was born in Danilowicz, and studied at Lithuanian yeshivot. He emigrated to Toronto in 1904 where he was recognized as the city's senior communal Orthodox rabbi. He helped found the Mizrachi movement in Toronto. In 1908 he helped establish the Simcoe Street talmud torah, the first in the city to use Hebrew as the language of instruction and precursor of the Associated Hebrew Schools. In 1919 Gordon addressed the founding conference of the Canadian Jewish Congress in Montreal on the subject of the five-day work week and its relationship to Sabbath observance. His writings include Minhat Ya'akov (1914) and "Dovev Siftei Yeshenim," on spiritualism, and "Nezirut min ha-Basar," on vegetarianism, both in manuscript.
