Description |

Responsa and novellae on Lamentations by R. Alexander Sender Eichenstein of Komarno. This is part two (part one was printed in Lvov in 1871). This volume is comprised of Zikkaron Devarim (pp. 1-16), with approbations from R. Eliezer Zevi Safrin and R. Isaac Eizek (Judah Jeheil Safrin). In addition to the responsa there is a lengthy section on Tisha b’Av. The second part of the book, entitled Demot Shelish (1-46) but without a title page, is a kabbalistic commentary on Lamentations.
R. Alexander Sender Eichenstein of Komarno (1770-1818), son of R. Isaac Eizik, was a descendant of R. Yom Tov Lipmann Heller and a student of the “seer” and of R. Zevi Wolf of Zbarash. He served as rabbi in Zydaczov and, from 1812, in Komarno. He lived in dire poverty all his life and was so absorbed in his studies that for days he went without food. R. Eichenstein died in Ujhely.
