Description		    R. Menahem b. Meir Eisenstaedter (1808-1869) was born in Ozhgrod (Ungvar) where his father, the Maharam Esh, was rabbi. R. Eisenstaedter was educated by his illustrious father and followed in his footsetps. An erudite scholar and leader of Hungarian Jewry, he was one of five rabbis selected for a successful mission to Kaiser Franz Josef to rescind an anti-Jewish decree. After several years in Hust he suceeded his father in the rabbinate of Ungvar. Many responsa from European Jewry were addressed to him. He wrote Zikhron Yehudah (Ozhgrod 1867) responsa and novellae.
