Description		    Italian language Talmudic dictionary by R. Moses ben Abraham Lattes (1846-1883). A scholarly introduction (3-16) is followed by the text which is primarily in Italian with occasional Hebrew. The text is accompanied by footnotes. Moses Lattes was born in Venice and studied in the rabbinical college in Padua, graduating in 1863. In 1869 he published, in Hebrew, De Vita et Scriptios Eliae Capsali, dedicated to his father. After his father’s death he acted as temporary rabbi for six months, and then resigned, principally in order that he might devote himself entirely to study. R. Lattes applied himself to the investigation of old documents, a large number of which he published, either in part or in their entirety, in the Archivio Veneto and in the periodicals Mose, Il Vessillo Israelitico, and in the Revue des Etudes Juives. He also published an independent collection of documents which had previously appeared in Mose entitled Notizie d Cocumenti di Litteratura e Storia Giudaica (Padua, 1879). R. Lattes was especially well known for his studies on the Talmud. His Nuovo Saggio di giunte e correzioni al lessico (Rome, 1881) won honorable mention in the Academia dei Lincie. He had collected material for numerous other works when his untimely death ended his career. He died due to an accident near Lake Lecco where he had gone to recover from a severe illness.
