R. Joshua b. Moses Judah Lebovitz acquired the rabbinate of Reteag in 1920 when he married the widow of the previous rabbi, R. Hayyim Bezalel Panet. R. Lebovitz had previously served in Zenta, however, due to the death of his young wife that left him with four orphans, he married the Panet widow with five orphans and moved to Reteag. R. Joshua was an erudite talmudic scholar, who was educated at the Yeshiva of the Arugat Habosem in Hust. He led a Yeshiva and this Zelah was a gift to his student. He perished in the Holocaust. |
