Description		    One thousand, three hundred-eighteen quotations and maxims relating to women by Simeon ben Kalman Ernst (1897-1967).The first of two title pages states that it is sayings, maxims, and parables with a border surrounding a sepia picture of a Mona Lisa with a sardonic smile. Next is a quote from R. Levi Yizhak of Berdichev that begins “In the eyes of the world love is a great lacking, but in my eyes it is the greatest of qualities.” The sayings follow, varying in length from one to several lines, all quotes from a wide variety of soruces. For example 3. If love is not bread, it is the wine of life” (R. Mendel of Kotsk); 11. “Love is a chain without end” (popular saying);240 “The greater the love for a woman the less the need to flatter her” (Moliere); 401 “Oy and alas to one whose wife wears the pants” (popular Jewish saying); 504 “Women do not know the value of money;” 758 “A woman that lacks flavor and fragrance, her husband will flee from the house” (popular Jewish saying); 830 “Woman are wont to relate the secrets of their husband’s love to other women, not so men with their wives secrets” (Avir). Simeon ben Kalman Ernst was born in Cracow but made aliyah to Erez Israel in 1912.
