Detailed
Description
Profusely illustrated comprehensive book in Hungarian with occasional Hebrew for Bar Mitzvahs, instructions in the Jewish religion, and Hebrew language lessons by Szemo Gyula. The title page is preceded by a fullpage illustration of a bearded rabbi wrapped in a tallit handing the bar mitzvah boy, also wearing a tallit, a book, presumably a Chumash. In the upper left hand corner are the Luhot and in the right hand corner is a blank scroll, except for the word Emlekul, where an inscription can be entered. There is a dedication and then the text. The text covers prayers, the Decalogue, Shemoneh Esrah, Tallit and Tefillin and who they are to be worn, mezuzot, Sefer Torah, biblical books, Torah readings and benedictions, including Berkhat ha-Gomel. There is a page of musical notes showing how the blessings are to be sung. Additional chapters are on lighting Sabbath candles, Rosh Hodesh, festivals, shofar, Yom Kippur, Sukkot, Hanukkah, Purim, Tishah be-Av, and Yizkor. All of this is followed by a listing of the parashiot, and then a paragraph of varying length on each weekly Torah reading. Next are sections on additional subjects such as charity and Birkhat ha-Kohanim. At the end of the book is a brief Hebrew-dictionary and a table of contents. The illustrations, several full page, are especially attractive. Among them are six illustrations on wearing tallit and tefillin (full page), kissing the mezuzah, prostrating on Yom Kippur, various religious implements (full page), Jews waving lulalvim, sitting on low chairs reciting Lamentations, a woman reciting the blessings over candles, and many more.
