Description		    Two separate books of novellae bound together. The first work is Ez Yosef by R. Joseph ben Meïr Zevi Darmstadt. This is the only edition of these novellae on three tractates, namely, Berakhot, Bezah, and Megillah. On the verso of the title page are approbations from R. Samuel Heilman, R. Nathanel Ashekenazi Weil, R. Tevel Hass, and R. Mordecai Halberstadt. Below the approbations is R. Darmstadt’s introduction. He writes that Ez Yosef is “‘like a tree planted by the rivers of water’ (Psalms 1:3) ‘Counsel in the heart of man is like deep water’ (Proverbs 20:5) ‘but a good word makes him glad’ (Proverbs 12:25). Across the width of the first text page are two winged angels holding a crest and within the crest is the first word of tractate Berakhot. R. Darmstadt was a German Talmudist who flourished in the second half of the eighteenth century. He was a pupil of R. Mordecai Halberstadt, author of Ma'amar Mordecai.

The second work is the Hiddushei Halakhot of the renowned R. Samuel Eliezer ben Judah ha-Levi (Maharshah). It is on Bava Kamma, Bava Mezia, Bava Batra, Shabbbat, Yevamot, Gittin, and Hullin. Hiddushei Halakhot has an especially attractive title page, comprised of a four part frame at the top and an elaborate woodcut at the bottom.
