Detailed Description |
|
Judeo-Arabic translation of the recounting of a medieval tale by Levi Reuven Simlin (Zimlin). The tale recounted in Malteoth Kefirim is from the Middle Ages and deals with a terrible murderer who spills the blood of young children like water. It is freely translated by Solomon Tavina in Bagdad and is now printed in India.
Levi Reuven Simlin was a noted parodist. He is best known for his Hagadah la-Melandim, a humourous paradoy in the form of a Pesah Haggadah. Professionally he was a teacher in Odessa.
Two other works are bound with Malteoth Kefirim. The second lacks a title page and the third has the heading Emek ha-Arzim. Both these books are printed with the same type as Malteoth Kefirim,so that they too are likely nineteenth century Calcutta imprints. Emek ha-Arzim is a popular tale of the life of Marranos in Spain by G. Agilar. Although several editions of this work are recorded no mention is made in bibliographic sources of a Calcutta edition. |
