Description		    First edition of these responsa and discourses by R. Abraham Joseph Samuel ben Israel Jonah Halevi Landau (1799-1836). The title page describes it as being by the youth, R. Landau, part of his Mishkan Shilah for שיל"ה stands for his name, Joseph Samuel ha-Levi Landau. He informs that his father, R. Jonah Halevi Landau, was av bet din, and his in turn,was also an av bet din, continuing to describe several generations of his family. Kor ha-Behinah has approbations from R. Zalman ben Abraham Tiktin, R. Moses Sofer, and R. Akiva Eger. There is an introduction from the author, who writes that he is but thirty-seven years old and that it had not been his intention to publish until he reached the age of understanding but “he hand of the Lord touched me” (cf. Job 19:21) and he became ill, so much that he was urged by everyone to seek medical assistance in Berlin. Trusting in the kindness of the Lord he said that who knows what the day will bring and to bring out this small book, a portion of his work. At the end of the introduction he informs that due to his illness the name Abraham has been added to his name. A second introduction by R. Hayyim ha-Kohen, son-in-law of R. Landau, begins that it is known that due to our iniquities the gaon the author was gathered unto his people while the book was in press. The text is comprised of twenty-eight responsa and seven discourses, set in two columns rabbinic letters.
