Detailed
Description
A poster announcing the preparations for Aliya Le-regel (in commemoration of the Biblical commandment of 'Hakhel') for the second day of Hol HaMoed Succot 5713 (October 6, 1952).

The poster is headed with two sentences taken from the Bible. The first is 'At the end of every seven years, in the set time of the year of release, in the feast of tabernacles" (Deuteronomy 31, 10), and the other is " Assemble the people, the men and the women and the little ones, and thy stranger that is within thy gates" (Deuteronomy 31, 12). In the center is shield crowned with the outline of the walls of the Old City and one the right a lulav and esrog, and on the left two trumpets (for calling the people together). The shield itself shows a throng of people wending their way on a road leading to the Menorah.

The program for the day is given, ending with a special prayer for the peace of the world.

The bottom of the poster announces another event to take place on the 24th of Tishre (October 13, 1952). There will be a Siyum (conclusion) and beginning of the study of Shas (the Talmud) as well as the beginning of the writing of a Sefer Torah...

Paragraph 2    Hakhel --The Bible enjoins that "At the end of every seven years, at the time of the year of release, at the Feast of Tabernacles" there is to take place an assembly of the whole people, "men, women, children, and the stranger that is within your gates." The purpose of this assembly is "that they may hear and so learn to revere the L-rd your G-d and to observe faithfully every word of this Teaching" (Deut. 31:10–13). This ceremony, called Hakhel ("assemble") after the opening word of verse 12, is mentioned only once in the Talmud (Sot. 7:8), but in great detail and includes an interesting historical incident. The Mishnah lays it down that the date referred to is on the first day of the festival of Sukkot after the close of the seven year period of shemittah, i.e., on the 15th day of the first month of the eighth year.
