Description		    Letter by R. Rafael David b. Nissim Saban (1873-1961), Hakham Bashi (Chief Rabbi) of Turkey. R. Saban was appointed in 1940 and served until his passing. A child prodigy, born to a wealthy merchant, he began his education early and mastered Talmud at age nine. An erudite scholar, R. Saban, served in several prestigous communities before his appointment as Hakham Bashi. He passed on on the Sabbath, 7th of Kislev, 5761.
