Detailed Description |
|
Only edition of this responsum on a shohet ve-bodek שוב (ritual slaughter) who violated the prohibition on hasugut gevul (trespass) by R. Hananiah Lipa ben Jonah Meisels (1890-1940). The title page informs that the title word Lehem is a notrikan for Hananiah Lipa Meisels and that the book makes the halakhah clear in great detail. It is a halakhic pilpul according to the truth of the Torah on the issue of transgress in the matter of shohet ve-bodek. It concerns a shohet who refused to listen to leading rabbis who called him to a din Torah. The halakhah is clear with proofs from the Talmud and poskim that it is prohibited for residents of the his city to consume meat that he has slaughtered. Furthermore, meat that he has slaughtered has the status of neveilah. The prohibition of hasugut gevul is very serious one, sufficiently so that that any slaughtering he does has the status of theft, for the decree against the generation of the flood was only sealed because of theft (Sanhedrin 119). The violator is banned and cursed, and called wicked. The residents of the city are required to distance themselves from him, but if he will rectify the breach he will be blessed. There is a concise statement of the contents and then the very detailed responsum in a single paragraph in rabbinic letters.
