Detailed
Description
Laws and regulations of Geelong Hebrew Congregation (Shearith Israel), established in 1849. The synagogue was consecrated in 1861. Geelong is the second largest city in the state of Victoria, Australia and is the largest regional center in the state. It is a port city with an urban population of 160,199 people. Also it is one of the largest provincial cities in Australia. Geelong is located on Corio Bay, 75 kilometers south-west of the state's capital, Melbourne. Jews began to assemble in Victoria in the 1840s and congregations sprang up in Melbourne, when in 1847 the first synagogue opened. This was followed by St Kilda, Geelong, Bendigo, and Ballarat in 1853.
