Description		    Only edition of collection of responsa by R. Solomon ben Aaron ibn Hassan and R. Samuel Gaon. The title page describes it as Mishpatim Yesharim “right ordinances” (Nehemiah 9:12) by the “two great lights” (Genesis 1:16) naming ibn Hassan and R. Gaon. It dates the completion of the work to Elul, in the year “Save us, O God of our salvation” (I Chronicles 16:35). There is an introduction on the verso of the title page. An interesting feature of this volume appears below the introduction, the press mark employed by the Gabbai press in Livorno, consisting of a shield with the famous five balls, the escutcheon of the Medici’s, rulers of the Duchy. The first part of Mishpatim Yesharim consists of eighty-six responsa and concludes that it is part two if Ibn Hassan’s responsa, presumably referring to his Beit Shelomo, also responsa, printed in Salonika in 1720. R. Solomon ben Aaron ibn Hassan (d. 1621) lived in the sixteenth century and was a renowned decisor in the Ottoman Empire. Part two, with its own foliation, consists of seventy-one responsa from R. Samuel Gaon, also a distinguished Sephardic halakhic authority. At the end of the volume is an index of the responsa, concluding with the three crowns first used by Hebrew presses in Italy and afterwards in Salonika.
