Detailed
Description
Polemic against long frontal hair (forelock) on Jewish men by R. Joshua Alter ben Elimelech Wildman (1858-1934). R. Wildman was born in Poland and made aliyah to Erez Israel, living in Jerusalem, where he died on Shavu’ot. Da Gezarot d’Orita has a subtitle “nor shall you walk in their ordinances” (Leviticus 18:3), followed by a description of the contents, that it is an explanation of the serious prohibition of bolorit (forelock), based on both the early and later rabbinic authorities, responsa from rabbis geonim, and leading sages of the holy land. It enumerates several of R.Wildman’s other works, namely, Binyan Yehoshua, Emek Yehoshua Aharon, Birkhat Yehoshua, Ve-Imrei Amen in two parts, and Torat ha-Hasidim ha-Rishonim. Ve-Imrei Amen was translated into English as And Let Us Say Amen. Da Gezarot d’Orita includes responsa from leading rabbis to R. Wildman in support of his position on the seriousness of the prohibition.
