R. Simhah Zisl b. Hezkiah Abraham Broide (1912- 2000) was born in and raised in Jerusalem to a prominent Lithuanian family. As a child, he studied in the Ez Hayyim Talmud Torah, at 15 he was accepted by the Alter of Slobodke as a student in yeshivas Knesses Yisroel in Hebron. Miraculously during the 1929 pogrom he was at home in Jerusalem and was thus saved.
In the summer of 1934, went to Europe to study in the Slabodka yeshiva and subsequently to the Talmud Torah in Kelm to study under R. Daniel Mowshowitz. A year later he returned to Erez Israel and went to Petach Tikvah to study and was one of the founders of the Toras Eretz Yisroel yeshiva there.
In the summer of 1941 (5701) he married Golda Miriam, daughter of R. Moses Finkel a son of the Alter of Slobodke and son-in-law of R. Moses Mordechai Epstein, the rosh yeshiva of Slobodka Yeshiva. A short time after his marriage, he was appointed to the position of R'A'M' in the yeshiva and began to deliver lectures in the Hebron-Knesset Israel yeshiva in Jerusalem. In 1969 he was appointed a member of the Moetzes Gedolei HaTorah. An erudite and prominent scholar he wrote much novellae, many have been printed. |
