Description		    Rare historical document giving a detailed accounting of the income and expenditures of the Central Va’ad of Vilna from the day it was founded in February, 1916 through January 1, 1917. The Central Va’ad of Vilna was the body for administering the distribution of charitable funds in Vilna. In addition to its Hebrew text the title page has German text describing the monograph as REchenschaftsbericht des Centralkomitees sämlicher jüdischen Wohltätigenstalten in Wilna. The verso of the title page has a list of the members of th eVa’ad followed by a statement of the accounts and then the records showing disbursements and income on facing pages with the amounts involved. Each entry is accompanied by descriptive text. Entries for disbursements include food for organizations that attend to the needs of the poor of the city, house of mourners for children, workers, Jewish girls, the wives of those whose husbands have gone off to war, and wood to be distributed for free and cheaply by the Zedekah Gedolah. This Accounts of Income and Expenditures provides an inisght to the life of the Jews in Vilna seldom seen with factual data in history books.
