The book was published through the efforts of R. Menashe Sutton's grandson (also named R. Menashe) who wrote a glowing tribute in the introduction. Leaves 40 (b) and 41 (a and b) contain a Derush (sermon)on R. Matloub Sutton, the father of the author. Approbations from R. Yaakob Shaul Dweck, R. Ezra Yitzhak Hamway, R. Moshe Ezra Mizrahi, and R. Eliyahu Hamway are included.

The author, R. Menashe Sutton, (d. 1876) was the son of R. Matloub Sutton (d. 1834) and was knowledgeable in all aspects of Torah learning including the calendar and Hebrew grammar. He was also well versed in astronomy, mathematics and engineering. He supported his family through his initiatives in business. R. Sutton is well known for his Kenisiyah Leshem Shamayim (Jerusalem, 1974) in which he argues fiercely against the practice of sorcery to banish evil spirits from a sick room or a maternity ward. This was unfortunately prevalent at the time he wrote this work and R. Menashe's campaign received encouragement from many other Rabbis. In fact, 36 Rabbis signed approbations for the work in 1852.

He also authored a number of other works including Klalei Dikdukei HaKriah (on the rules of grammar that affect correct reading of the Torah), Mateh Menashe (three volumes of novellae on the Talmud and the Rambam) and Siftei Sadik ( on the Shulhan Arukh).

R. Sutton served as Rabbi in Safed for four years (1870-1874), for two years in Aleppo, and he died in Alexandria, Egypt where he had also been asked to serve as the Rabbi.
