Detailed
Description
Unusual photo album of revolutionaries from the earliest times to the present (1925) suitably bound with a red cover. The Red Album consists of a brief forward in Yiddish followed by the body of the book, which is comprised of photographs and portraits of revolutionaries, generally three to a page, each accompanied by a brief caption. The large number of illustrations encompasses a wide variety of personalities, whose common bond is their opposition to established authority. The pictures are organized by country and then alphaphabetically. The book begins with Italy, the first three illustrations being of Tiberius Graccuus (163-133 B. C. E), Gaius Graccus (153-121 B. C. E.), and Spartacus. It quickly moves to more recent times with Mazini, Bruna and Garribaldi and even includes Japan and the Philippines. It includes such figures as Bella Kohen. Among those represented is Abraham Lincoln. Many of the entries are of individuals still alive, including at the time Nicholas Saccho and Bartelomo Vanzetti, the former described as a korban to American capitalism. There are actors, such as Paul Leopold, representatives of the French revolution, and illustrations of soldiers from various countries under the heading commoner. The book concludes with William Tell (of apple fame) and and index.
