Description		    Single sheet, 262:176 mm., light age staining. An envelope is also included addressed to Rabbi S. Elberg of Brooklyn, NY and postmarked Februrary 7, 1965. On the envelope is a sticker on which is written in Hebrew "please stick the attached on the walls of the Beit Midrash". A rare unknown flyer.
          
Paragraph 1    This letter is headed "AN OPEN PROTEST" , and it is signed by six distinguished Rabbis: R. Avraham Yaphan, R. Dovid Lifshitz, R. Yaakov Kaminetsky, R. Yaakov Yitzhak HaLevi Ruderman, R. Yitzhak Hutner, and R. Menahem Yosef Zaks.

The letter begins by stating that out of great pain and grief we are expressing the shock to our souls at the sight that was revealed ...of late in the matter of the conduct of negotiations in halakha, in the form that insults, in the style of extreme rudeness and the use of sharp expressions, that lower the honor of our Holy Torah ...and the things have gone down to such a degree of Chutzpah...in a manner that has not been heard of until now among the sages who who butt heads in halakha.

We cannot stay quiet... and therefore we come with this to be heard in public OUR PROTEST AGAINST THE INSULT TO THE TORAH.

Description		    This writer speculates that this may have been produced by students of R. Moshe Feinstein in response to the campaign waged against his responsa which permitted many practices deemed inappropriate by many rabbis. The rabbis expressed their opposition in a number of period Torah journals - some quite forcibly. While the envelope states "for posting on the wall", the flyer is rather small and unsuitable for posting. Furthermore, based on this writer's recollections, the list of signatories is rather odd as some of them were opposed to R. Moshe's היתרים.
