Only edition of this work on the laws of shehitah and rabbunus in in Israel by R. Hillel David ben Ozer ha-Kohen Triwosch, publishee as an appendix to ha-Pisgah. The title is taken from “Therefore this iniquity shall be to you as a breach (peretz) ready to fall (nivah) ” (Isaiah 30:13). R. Triwosch refers on the title page to the breaches in the walls of religion, and that it is in our hands, only if we are willing, to enclose and raise them up. R. Hillel David ben Ozer ha-Kohen Triwosch (1841-1901) was also the author of the responsa ve-Nigash ha-Kohen and Avodat ha-Kohen and Eden Ganim, as well as being a publisher of the journal ha-Pisgah.
Bound with Peretz Nivah are three large issues of ha-Pisgah, a journal of collected writings published intermittently from 1889 through 1899. Published in Vilna, this journal does not appear to be related or similar to the short lived contemporary American Hebrew literary journal of that name. The articles here deal with rabbinic issues, reviews, poetry, bibliography, and other issues, with some of the leading names in eastern European Jewry as authors. Among them are R. Isaac Elhanan of Kovno, R. Elieezer Kohen Harif, R. Moses Braunstein, R. Triwosch, the editor, Hayyim Baruch Melamed, Abraham Harkaby, Solomon Buber, and many others.
