Detailed
Description
A work establishing the correct and exact text of tractates Nedarim and Nazir of the Babylonian Talmud by R. Mordecai Aryeh ben Solomon Zevi Haiman. The title page informs that it is on the two tractates and that it was brought to press by the author’s widow, Mariam Leah bat Asher and her sons. It is dated 15 Menahem Av 703 (Sunday, July 18, 1943). Facing the title page is a full page picture of the author and his wife. There is and introduction from R. Hayyim Bezalel ben Asher Rabbinowicz, who writes that Rav Haiman sat, day and night for three years to establish the correct text of these tractates from the thirteenth century manuscript found in Munich. Rav Haiman’s manuscript was given to the library of the Bet Medrash in Chicago in a copy of his handwriting, in which he compares the text of the manuscript to these tractates to that of the Vilna Shass. It is now brought to press, a year after his passing. After R. Rabbinowicz’s introduction is a second, longer introduction, from the noted scholar, R. Saul Lieberman. The text, which is reproduced from his typewritten copy, is comprised of the texts of the Vilna edition and of the Munich manuscript in parallel columns.
