Detailed
Description
Collected verse and drama by the Danish poet and playwright Nathan Raphael ben Simon Kalckar (1788-1861). The verso of the title page has brief verse from Gedalia Joseph, followed by a table of contents with twenty-one entries, including the preface written erev Rosh HaShanah. Among the subject matter are verse for the sould of the rav, on the summer, on the foundation of a synagogue, for a group that learns Bible, and on a birth. Most important, often referred to in works on nineteenth century Hebrew drama, is the inclusion of Kalckar’s play, Gedullat Yosef (The Greatness of Joseph). The text is in a single column in square vocalized Hebrew, excepting headers and preliminary matter which is unvocalized.
