Detailed
Description
Only edition of this work on the customs and aggadot related to the monument and burial place of Mordecai and Esther. The subtitle states that is on the matzevot in the city of Shushan in Persia (Hamdan). There is an illustration of the burial place – a large structure - of Mordecai and Esther in Shushan and below a brief description of the arrangement of the chambers (rooms) in the sepulcher. The verso of that page describes Matzevot Mordecai ve-Esther as being a chapter in R. ha-Levi’s larger work Divrei Yemai Yisrael be-Parsa, which will cover the period from the completion of the Talmud until the present, which is still in manuscript. The text includes several illustrations of inscriptions in the matzevot and a full page rubbing of an inscription. As stated on the title page Matzevot Mordecai ve-Esther is a compilation of the customs and aggadat related to the burial place of the biblical Mordecai and Esther.

R. Menahem ben Samuel ha-Levi was born in Hamadan, Persia (Iran) and made aliyah to Erez Israel in 1923. He died in Jerusalem in 1940. His other published works are Zemirot Yisrael, Targum Tefillot Yozer le-Shabbat in Parsi, Targum Mi Kemocha of R. Judah ha-Levi on Megillat Esther in Persian. Nine other works remain in manuscript.
