Janot S. Roskin (1884-1946)was a composer who already in his yourh worked as a choirist. On his journeys in his homeland region he collected folksongs.He went to Berlin and founded a conservatory and in 1916 founded a muscial publishing house which in 1921 took the name Hatikva, and with this enterprise he exerted himself in the goal of spreading Jewish music
He published many collections of Jewish songs and folksogs.He also led the choir of the Jewish reform synagogue and was active as a composer. He wrote compositions for piano and for voice.
He went into exile to the US and created the musical publishing house Hatikva in the United States in 1941. He died in Indianapolis in 1946. His company relocated to various cities and was eventually taken over by Transcontinental Music Publishers.
