Two volumes, extra wide margins, light age and damp staining, old family register on fly v.2. A very good set bound in contemporary full leather over boards, rubbed.

Description

A beautifully printed set of Mahzorim following the rites of Germany and Poland, with a Judeo-German translation in Wayberish fonts, for common folk, women, and children, as they generally did not comprehend Hebrew.

Luneville, a town in the Meurthe-et-Moselle department, N.E. France. Several Jews were mentioned in Luneville in 1470–72, just before the expulsion from the duchy of Lorraine. Two Jewish families were authorized to live in the town by an edict of 1753; there were 16 families residing there when the synagogue was constructed in 1785. A cemetery was not consecrated until 1791. The community numbered 315 persons in 1808. The Hebrew printing press in Luneville produced only 15 titles.

שיר היחוד, שנדפס בכל כרך (דף כג-ל) נדפס "עם פי'המלות בלה"ק [בלשון הקודש] כנמצא בתפלת המקובל... של"ה" [ר' ישעיה הלוי הורוויץ, סידור שער השמים, אמשטרדם תע"ז]. נוסח אשכנז עם ההוספות שבנוסח פולין.
