Detailed
Description
Illustrated work issued in celebration of Shavu’ot (Chavouoth). The sub title is Fěte des Prémices. Jour de la Promulgation de la Roi. Contes et Chants (a day of the promulgation of the King. Tales and Songs). The text has numerous articles and songs, many accompanied by photographs, drawings, and musical notes. At the end is a bibliography and table of contents. Chavouoth begins with biblical times, with articles on the origin of the festival, ceremony, under the kings of Judah, the Hamoneans, and a chant. Among the other sections are the Decalogue, with three parts, legends relating to the Torah, including the Torah and the angels, and humanity, through the generations, and in the dessert. The next section is the Torah over the centuries, with seven entries, among them moral precepts, the Sefer Torah, Talmud and two chants. Among the six other sections are traditional Shavu’ot, which includes costumes, akdumot (chant), and Shavu’ot in North Africa, the book of Ruth, and Shavu’ot in Israel.
