Description
Balance Sheet for the English branchs of the Mahzikei ha-Da’at and Shomrei ha-Da’at charitable organizations for the two year period 1917-18. The front page is on Yiddish with a sub-heading in English stating that it is a Balance Sheet for the 2 years ending 1918. Bankers: Barclay’s Bank Ltd. Miles End Branch. The introductory paragraphs (pp. 1-2) by the Gabbai, B. L. Divisky makes mention of Rav Kook, later renown as the first Chief Rabbi in Palestine. The balance sheet comprises five pages. The first page lists the societies’ assets and liabilities. Among the assets are the Talmud Torah, Stepney Borough Council, the Machzika Hadass for Board of Shechita, and cash. Among the liabilities are the Feeration (Principal), rent, gas, Russian-Polish Fund, Russian Families. Palestinian Fund, Passover Collection Fund, and others. The next two pages are payments and receipts in Yiddish followed by the same figures in English. All figures are in pounds.
