The investigations by Prof . Dr. Julius Ley (1822-1901) opened new perspectives for the study of the art forms of Hebrew poetry.Ley formulated a rhythmical system which was based on the natural word accent. The form of the Hebrew verseline depends on the number of stresses syllables. On this basis, he distinguished between hexameter, octameter, decameter and pentameter. The text is in German, which frequent use of Hebrew sources. The final 30 pages contain the Hebrew text of Psalms I - XLI. |
