Description		    Bi-lingual Hebrew-Arabic ethical with novellae and commentary on the Bible and other works by R. Mattuk ben Kalifa Hatab. The title page describes it as containing ethical admonition and reproof with novellae and explanations of the Bible, sayings of the sages in the Talmud and midrashim, accompanied by numerous tales and parables. All of this printed in two languages, Hebrew and Arabic, that all should be able to read it equally well. It has been organized alphabetically so that the reader can easily find whatever he is looking for. The title, Orah ve-Simhah, is from, “The Jews had light, and gladness (orah ve-simhah), and joy, and honor” (Esther 8:16). Orah ve-Simhah has approbations from several rabbis from Djerba, followed by the author’s introduction, and a lengthy list of supporters whose assistance made publication possible. Next is the text, comprised of Hebrew in rabbinic letters at the top of the page, with Arabic translation in square Hebrew letters below. The first part of the book, comprised of ethical parables and stories concludes on 72a. The verso has an index of that part. From 73 a are discourses and reproof, following the same format as the first part of the book. A second part was printed in Djerba the following year.
