Detailed
Description
Souvenir booklet issued in honor of the Weiss-Seligman wedding on 23 October, 1898. The entire booklet, long and narrow, is printed on a heavy tan paper. The cover and first page have a monochrome portrait of the couple. The text is comprised of verse and articles in honor of the occasion. At the beginning is verse dedicated to the Seligman family by Hugo Bauer, comprised of eleven quatrains, Das höchste Gut des Menschen, Seit tausend Jahren schon, Das Heiligste auf Erden, ist seine Religion (The highest good of the people, since a thousand years already, the Holy on the earth, is his religion). Next are Wochen Schrift; wichtige Sensation vom Wiener Schauplatz (Important sensation from the Vienna scene) which includes Leidartikel, Feuilleton, local-Bericht, vereine und Verbände, militärisches, Theaterberichte (articles, features, local reports, clubs and reports, military and theatre reports) and much more. Altogether a clever and attractive wedding souvenir reflective of Viennese Jewish live in fin-de-siecle Vienna.
